SAPE Inaugurates Romania’s First State-Owned Solar Park with PNRR Funds

The state company SAPE (Societatea de Administrare a Participațiilor în Energie), fully owned by the Romanian state through the Ministry of Energy, put into operation the Dărvari 2 photovoltaic park in Prahova county, with an installed power of 5 MW and a battery storage capacity of 1 MW.

It is the first photovoltaic park owned by the Romanian state and built with PNRR funds that has been put into operation,” said Bogdan Stănescu, president of the SAPE directorate.

It is also the first photovoltaic park in Romania that has an energy storage capacity right from the start.

“In the last 12 months, from June 2023, foreign direct investments totaled 5.8 billion euros. The contracts financed from non-refundable funds for the energy sector that we signed in the last year total 13.6 billion euros. That means more than double the foreign direct investments”, said the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, present at the inauguration.

He recalled that the team from the ministry stayed until 4 in the morning, on December 30 last year, in order to be able to submit on time the documentation necessary to obtain financing for this project.

The photovoltaic park was built on former phosphorite dumps from the nearby Valea Călugărească chemical plant, added Angelica Grindei, manager of General ME.EL Electric, the company that carried out the project. By building these parks, we managed to green the land, green it and install the renewable energy production plant,” she said.

The photovoltaic park represents an investment of almost 35 million lei, of which approximately 7.5 million lei are non-refundable funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The execution contract was signed at the end of August 2023, and at the beginning of 2024 the photovoltaic park entered trials, and on July 5 it became commercial. In addition to production, the park also has a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 1 MW.
