Wave of canceled Tarom flights on Monday due to crew unavailability
Tarom canceled on Monday 20 flights that were to land or take off from Henri Coandă Airport (Otopeni), according to the list of arrivals and departures of the Bucharest Airports company. The company initially announced only the cancellation of three flights to and from three destinations, and then came back with a new press release saying it was “an unprecedented situation” and that it was 10 flights from Monday.
The flights were canceled after several pilots suddenly stopped coming to work. They cited health issues.
TAROM’s official new statement announced the cancellation of ten flights from July 8, 2024, “due to the temporary unavailability of flight crew members”.
In accordance with international aviation regulations and strict domestic flight safety policies, each of the respective flights was canceled because a crew member of each aircraft was declared ‘unfit to fly.’ The individual decisions of the pilots were taken in accordance with the regulations in force, to ensure the safety and comfort of the passengers and the crew”, states the company.
The flights canceled so far are: ROT101/2 Otopeni -Cairo- Otopeni, ROT167/8 Otopeni -Beyrut- Otopeni, ROT187/8 Otopeni -Amman-Otopeni, ROT701/2 Otopeni – Iasi-Otopeni, ROT621/2 – Otopeni – Oradea- Otopeni, ROT261/2 – Otopeni – Istanbul-Otopeni, ROT231/2 – Otopeni – Budapest-Otopeni, ROT 301/2 – Otopeni – Frankfurt-Otopeni, ROT361/2 – Otopeni – Amsterdam – Otopeni, ROT 381/2 – Otopeni – Paris-Otopeni.
The company is thus going through an unprecedented situation, and the united TAROM teams are working to identify solutions and protect passengers starting tonight. The Commercial, Ticketing, Call Center Departments and some of the pilots and flight attendants are currently in operational mobilization and are considering rerouting or other alternatives, during which the passengers at the airport are provided with what they need. Additional personnel have already been allocated for these activities”, announced Tarom.
The national flag carrier regrets the inconvenience caused and assures passengers that their safety is our absolute priority. We are committed to providing convenient alternatives for passengers affected by these cancellations.
“Our support team will contact passengers directly to provide detailed information regarding flight rescheduling, refunds or other available options. The TAROM company makes every effort and takes the necessary measures to reduce the impact that this situation could have on the travel plans of the affected passengers, and they will be informed about the new flight arrangements”, states TAROM.
The Minister of Transport requested the management of the TAROM company to urgently take measures for the current situation.
“I requested the management of the TAROM company to urgently take measures for the current situation! The management team, selected based on the provisions of the Corporate Management Ordinance, has all the legal leverage to take the necessary administrative decisions to avoid such blockages and to prevent their recurrence! That is why the management team must urgently come up with an effective restructuring plan, through which to ensure the operative capacity of the TAROM company. The emphasis must be placed on the insurance of the sailing staff and not on maintaining in the scheme some people who do not have a contribution to the good functioning of TAROM! I am waiting for an applied and detailed public communication from the General Director of TAROM to announce the identified solutions!“, wrote Sorin Grindeanu on Facebook.
