Man from Ohkay Owingeh facing 18 years in prison after abusing child

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Christopher Marquez, a 34-year-old member of the Ohkay Owingeh community, is set to see an 18-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to child abuse.

The abuse happened in 2021, according to the plea agreement. Marquez admitted to physical abuse, which resulted in broken bones and other injuries to a five-year-old girl.

Now, Marquez is in custody while he awaits sentencing, but the U.S. Department of Justice says he will receive a definite term of 18 years for the crimes. After his release from prison, he will be subject to up to three years of supervision.
