New Mexico Film Office, location managers nominated for awards for work on ‘Oppenheimer’

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) has nominated the New Mexico Film Office and local location managers for their work on the film “Oppenheimer.” 

Christopher Nolan’s award-winning “Oppenheimer” film is in the running for “Outstanding Locations in a Period Feature.” The movie was filmed in many parts of New Mexico, including Los Alamos, Ghost Ranch, Belen, and Santa Fe.

“Being nominated for an LMGI Award in the ‘Outstanding Locations in a Period Feature’ category for ‘Oppenheimer’ is incredibly humbling,” Dennis Muscari, location manager for the film, said in a news release. “New Mexico’s diverse landscapes and historical buildings all played a vital role in bringing Oppenheimer’s story to life, and this nomination is a true recognition of the incredible locations we have here. It’s a collaborative effort, and I’m so grateful to the entire location team, the New Mexico Film Office, and everyone who helped us find the perfect spots to capture this historic era.”

Other nominees in this category include “Dune: Part Two” from Warner Bros., “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” from Warner Bros., “Killers of the Flower Moon” from Apple, “Napoleon” from Apple Studios/Columbia Pictures, and “Zone of Interest” from A24.

The New Mexico Film Office has been nominated for the Outstanding Film Commission award for its work on the film.  “We are incredibly honored that the LMGI has recognized New Mexico in not one, but two categories this year,” said New Mexico Film Office Director Amber Dodson in the news release. “These nominations are a testament to New Mexico’s incredible locations, outstanding location experts, and our film office’s dedication to ensuring collaboration among government, communities, and the filmmakers that choose to bring their vision to life in our beautiful state.”

The New Mexico Film Office is one of six film offices recognized globally, with other nominees from areas such as Sydney, Iceland, Glasgow, and Jordan.

The LMGI Awards ceremony will take place on Aug.24, 2024, in Los Angeles, CA.
