ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Could on-the-street, electric scooters make a comeback in Albuquerque? City councilors are expected to vote on the topic during Monday’s meeting.
The ordinance would lower fees for scooter and bike-share businesses. When comparing Albuquerque’s costs to Colorado Springs, businesses spent around $40,000 for 500 scooters and 50 stations.
In Albuquerque, that cost is more than $150,000 for the same number of scooters.
The ordinance would reduce permit and application fees, but it would also require businesses to operate with no more than 1,000 scooters, or e-bikes, and to create a geo-fenced area where businesses can’t operate outside of.
Councilor Fiebelkorn said she expects to hear from a Lime Scooter representative in favor of the proposal during Monday’s meeting.
