RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The Rio Rancho mayor and city councilors unanimously approved an ordinance for public service aides to dish out parking tickets and other traffic citations. They can now enforce parking tickets and registration for Rio Rancho residents.
A spokesperson for the Rio Rancho Police Department said the new law will lighten the load for officers to protect the public from more serious offenses. “The traffic division has put together a training program for the PSAs, specifically how to testify in court and how to deal with, the appropriateness of citing versus warnings,” said Lt. Richard Koschade, Rio Rancho Police Department.
The law goes into effect immediately.
