Weak cold front & rain-free weather around New Mexico

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Warmer-than-normal conditions aloft are battling a weak cold front that’s moving through the Land of Enchantment as mostly clear skies are continuing despite the weather changes this morning. It’s still rain-free though with very clear skies, calming winds, and still relatively dry air despite the higher humidity out east, allowing for a few areas in the higher elevations to start of below freezing, while everywhere else is slightly warmer to start than yesterday despite the front because of the mixing of the air-masses with most ranging from the upper 30s to the 60s.

Despite the chill in the air to start, conditions will once again warm up to above-normal criteria as temperatures mostly will rise across the region from the morning school commute into the high 60s, 70s, 80s, and low 90s by the afternoon. Compared to yesterday, it’ll be slightly cooler in southern areas as the front dissipates to the southwest, potentially sparking up a few showers in Hidalgo County, while temperatures will rebound more in a big way in northern areas with drier air. Very clear skies will continue for a vast majority of the region.

Last week’s storm system is stubbornly still meandering to the east, but clear skies with higher pressure aloft will develop to continue overhead, allowing for only very spotty rainfall across New Mexico ahead with generally higher temperatures and even drier air.
