Chicago Sky fans were left shocked after the WNBA team fired coach Teresa Weatherspoon. This announcement was met with criticism from star player Angel Reese, who asserted she was left heartbroken because of this decision. Weatherspoon’s tenure with the Chicago Sky lasted just one season.

Chicago Sky fires head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, claims report
Chicago Sky decided to fire Teresa Weatherspoon after just one season with the team. Weatherspoon had previously been an assistant coach with New Orleans Pelicans for a number of seasons. (via Chicago Sun-Times) However, the co-owner of Chicago Sky, Nadia Rawlinson recently addressed the same in a statement.
Per CBS Sports, Rawlinson said, ”After careful consideration, we have decided it is in the best interest of the organization to part ways with head coach Teresa Weatherspoon.” She further added, ”We are deeply appreciative of Coach TSpoon’s contributions to the Chicago Sky, and the energy and passion she brought to the head coaching role. We thank her for inspiring a competitive, resilient spirit across the team, synonymous with Chicago Sky basketball.”
The Chicago Sky failed to make it to the playoffs this season after they finished it with a record of 13-27. Teresa Weatherspoon was a replacement for the previous head coach of the Chicago Sky, James Wade. According to CBS Sports, top player of the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese also expressed her sadness with the firing.
Reese wrote on X (formerly Twitter), ”I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me.” Moreover, the Chicago Sky power forward expressed how much she was proud of Weatherspoon for overcoming the challenges that came her way.
Additionally, Reese stated, ”We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever. I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but I’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”
