Australian jazz/funk outfit Hiatus Kaiyote have cancelled the final dates on their Love Heart Cheat Code national tour, citing illness.
The shows, which were due to take place last night (27 September) at the Astor Theatre, Perth, and tonight at Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall, were announced as cancelled this week. Not all hope is lost, however, as the band are working with the venues to come up with rescheduled dates and promise to bring something “extra special” to the shows.
“PERTH + ADELAIDE 💔 Bad news friends,” the band began in a statement on Instagram. “[Vocalist] Nai Palm has been struck with the lurgy. She’s put in a hell of a fight over the past few days but she’s physically unable to perform tomorrow night in Perth, so we have made the decision to reschedule the Perth and Adelaide shows.
“We’re working with the venues to find dates and will end our Love Heart Cheat Code world tour with our fans there and even bring something extra special.”
In a statement of her own, Nai Palm added, “I have never cancelled a show for health reasons before but a screaming ear ache that won’t quit and razor cough isn’t conducive to loud music performance.
“I’m super sorry to pull the show last minute but thought i could magically pull it off. I love you and appreciate your support always.”
Referencing The Simpsons in an image the band shared on Instagram, Nai Palm concluded, “Pray for Mojo.”
In other Hiatus Kaiyote news, the band have been nominated for Best Group at this year’s Music Victoria Awards, which will take place on Thursday, 24 October, at The Edge at Federation Square. They share impressive company with fellow nominees Cool Sounds, Gut Health, Mindy Meng Wang 王萌 & Sui Zhen, and RVG.

Hiatus Kaiyote laboured on Love Heart Cheat Code for two years, with some touring between sessions but less personal strain, the band revealed in a recent interview with The Music’s Cyclone Wehner.
The band’s keyboardist, Simon Moss, reflected: “I think things just settled a little bit after COVID. Mood Valiant was a pretty crazy time for the world – and for us.
“When we were all making that, we were kind of sneaking out of our houses and going into the studio to work on that record, which was pretty nuts. Then this latest record came along, and it was more relaxed in how we achieved it.”
