AEW star Ricochet engaged in a significant storyline during his final run in WWE with former Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker. After his WWE contract expired in the summer, Ricochet chose not to renew it.

In the weeks leading up to his departure, WWE placed Ricochet in a storyline against Bron Breakker, who had recently joined the roster and quickly made a name for himself by dominating his opponents. The WWE booked this rivalry just before Ricochet’s exit.

The storyline featured Bron Breakker attacking Ricochet repeatedly. On the June 10, 2024, episode of RAW, WWE planned to write him off television. While brawling backstage, Bron Breakker slammed Ricochet onto production trucks and power-slammed him onto a car. WWE’s backstage crew intervened to halt the chaos. After the brutal attack, Ricochet was carried out on a stretcher in an ambulance, effectively writing him off WWE programming.

Fans criticized this angle, questioning whether WWE intended to bury Ricochet on his way out. After leaving the promotion, he debuted at AEW All In last month. Recently, he shared his thoughts on his last angle with Bron Breakker in WWE.

Ricochet addresses backlash from his last WWE angle

AEW star Ricochet recently appeared on the Talk is Jericho podcast, where he expressed his belief that WWE intended for his storyline to have an open ending in case he decided to sign a new deal. In response to criticisms, he noted that WWE was trying to establish Bron Breakker as a major star and that his role was to take big moves from other wrestlers.

He stated, “Guys, I never won, for one. So if I won and left, it would be weird. Two, it’s like, (Bron Breakker) just started on Raw, they’re trying to make him a big threat, they’re trying to make him do something that’s dastardly. That was Ricochet’s role to take the moves from the people, that was always Ricochet’s role. It doesn’t matter if it was Braun or Drew or whoever, you know what I mean? Bronson Reed, Shinsuke, to take their move. I’m gonna take their move. It is what it is, it was a blessing and a curse, I blame myself.”

WWE successfully established Bron Breakker as a significant threat on the roster following the Ricochet storyline. Meanwhile, in AEW, the high-flyer is racking up victories. In the upcoming edition of AEW Dynamite, he is scheduled to face Will Ospreay for the International title.
