Naarm/Melbourne punk outfit Kill Bell have officially shared their second album with the world, the eagerly-aticipated Trash.
The new record follows on from 2021’s I Don’t Think That I Have What You Want, and is the result of the Brunswick band having spent spent further honing their craft on the live scene, having supported names such as RVG, Leah Senior, Pinch Points, and more.
The group have spent more than a year promoting the ten-track record, with singles such as Not My Type, What Has Become Of Me?, and May’s Breakneck all being issued in the lead-up.
As the group explain, the album is a collection of tracks that not only assets the band’s punk dominance, but also speaks to anyone who has felt the weight of their 20s slipping away as they face the realities of getting older, complete with existential dread and continual grumpiness.
“Trash comes from a place of feeling particularly defeated by the state of the world, but it’s not a defeatist album,” they note.
Tracks such as Ozempic further this notion, speaking about society’s unrelenting and often dengarous pressures placed on women. Lead singer Charlie Pass encompasses the band’s intense energy, with Trash effectively assuming the role of an extension of her inner dialogue.
Meanwhile, guitarist, producer, and songwriter Nick Tam took on mixing and mastering duties for the record, offering a musical vision for the band that outside assistance would not usually offer. “I loved being able to mix and master the entire album, because it allowed me to have full creative control,’ Tam said.
Kill Bell have also shared a video for their track Server, filmed at Charlie’s workplace, Leonard’s House Of Love. Shot and edited by Louis Bergemann, it reflects the juxtaposition between Charlie performing to adoring fans at sold out shows, before returning to her work where patrons treat her poorly.
The group will also promote their nascent album with a pair of shows. Alongside a show in Eora/Sydney at The Oxford Arts Factory on Saturday, October 12th, the band will perform a hometown launch at The Curtin, on Friday, October 18th, with support from Ghost Bitch, Milksick, and Tommy Dynamite.
