At a campaign event in Waunakee, Wisconsin, former President Donald Trump mocked Jimmy Carter on his 100th birthday. He used the opportunity to criticize both Carter’s presidency and President Joe Biden. Unlike other living former presidents who shared messages honoring Carter’s milestone, Trump did not mention Carter’s birthday or his status as the longest-living former president. Instead, Trump compared Carter favorably to Biden, saying Jimmy Carter is the “happiest man because Carter is considered a brilliant president in comparison.” Meanwhile, he labeled Biden as the “worst” president in U.S. history. Taking a jab at Biden’s immigration policies, Trump added, “I mean, Jimmy Carter didn’t let 21 million people come into our country without checks, without balance, without anything from parts unknown.”

His comments stood in stark contrast to the tributes from Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden, who honored Carter at a benefit concert raising $1.2 million for the Carter Center. The concert aired on Georgia Public Broadcasting and featured messages of support for Carter’s work on peace, health, and humanitarian causes.

While Trump attacked both Biden’s and Carter’s legacies, Carter, who has been in hospice care since February 2023, spent his birthday quietly surrounded by family, watching a military flyover in his honor. Instead of focusing on his 100th milestone, Carter’s family shared that what mattered most to him was being able to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.
