Cold front moves through tonight but temperatures stay warm for most

Record breaking temperatures continue across New Mexico. Rain stays spotty in the higher elevations.

While it may be October, the temperatures don’t feel like it quite yet. A high pressure system to the west of New Mexico is assisting in heating up temperatures across parts of New Mexico. A backdoor cold front will be moving through New Mexico tonight. The front will drop temperatures by a few degrees for most of northern and central New Mexico. However, temperatures return to near record breaking for Saturday and stick around through the end of the weekend.

The high pressure system is also providing insufficient moisture for rain across the state. A few spotty showers will be seen later today and tomorrow in the Gila Wilderness and the Northern Mountains. The state will almost completely dry out over the weekend. Spotty showers for the higher elevations will return early next week.

Balloon Fiesta officially kicks off early Saturday morning. Currently, winds on Saturday morning look calm. They increase a little bit Saturday night but not enough to effect the nightly events. Sunday’s winds are trending a little bit higher than Saturday. Currently, green flags are flying for the am and pm events on Saturday and Sunday.
