They found multiple cuts and bruises all over the elderly woman’s body. While searching her room, they found blood-stained sheets and pillows that were covered in rat feces. When they talked to the woman’s niece, Laura Martinez, and her son, Jonathon Madrid, the pair got upset. They told Madrid to wait outside of the house and he got irate. He also berated deputies calling them mentally ill and talked about conspiracy theories.

Madrid wouldn’t listen to his aunt who told deputies she felt the pair were going to hit her. When deputies tried to take Madrid into custody, he fought back and bit a deputy in the process. Martinez then stepped in to help her son and punched a deputy in the head. Mother and son were both arrested.

Madrid and Martinez are both facing charges for elder abuse, cruelty to animals, and attacking an officer. They’ll be in court on Thursday.
