Record heat before a cool front

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Along with the slight chill in the air to start across the region, mostly quiet conditions with dry air remains with no Northern Lights for now, up until this evening potentially. Mostly clear skies with mostly light winds are still in place, as despite the pesky northwesterly wind to start above the lighter northerly winds in Albuquerque, green flags will mostly likely be predominantly up at Balloon Fiesta with special shapes up possible for not only today, but very likely, for the remainder of the event. Temperatures are ranging from the 20s to the low 60s across New Mexico, at-or-slightly below normal for some northern areas, while the remainder of the region is still experiencing above-normal temperatures. While stable air remains for much of The Land of Enchantment despite a little bit of leftover mid-to-upper-level moisture, the tropical moisture is still lingering in parts of The Southeast with the remnants of deadly Hurricane Milton moving out to sea.

Meanwhile, in The Southwest, the dominant high pressure system is creeping closer from the southwest which is still allowing for mostly clear skies in the region, but a little bit moisture is still being drawn up into the western and southern mountains, which will allow for some passing clouds today, but with hardly any rain activity even in the mountains because of the closer proximity of the high pressure. Elsewhere, mostly sunny skies will ensue and as temperatures will rise, southwesterly winds will pick up a little bit. From the morning school commute on into the afternoon, temperatures will eventually reach into the upper 60s, 70s, 80s, and in the low-to-mid 90s, near record territory for some.

Mostly clear skies with relatively chilly mornings and seasonably warm afternoons will continue for at least the next few days as despite a storm system approaching late this weekend into early next week, most will still remain rain-free with mostly light winds up until next week where conditions will start to feel a bit more like fall at the cost to stronger winds.
