A fan’s LEGO recreation of the Daft Punk ‘Alive’ show in 2007 could become a real product, thanks to a campaign set up by its creators.

Last week (October 4), a poll appeared on LEGO Ideas – a community website by the toy giant that serves as a crowd-polling database of fan ideas for new LEGO products – showing a LEGO set replicating Daft Punk’s stage set-up for their 2007 ‘Alive’ tour.

Fellow users can back the project with a vote, where once it reaches 10,000 votes, it will be considered for review by LEGO. Any project that passes this phase will see its creation become an official LEGO product, with 1 per cent of the proceeds going back to its original creator.

User RobotRock – whose real name is Patrick Harboun, per Mixmag – wrote: “This project began in 2020 as a fun father-son collaboration, growing into something epic as we found ourselves needing a creative escape during lockdown.”

According to Harboun, the set won the Grand Prize in Music To Our Ears!, a global competition set up by LEGO in partnership with Universal Music. Watch the prototype video by Harboun below.

“Both huge Daft Punk fans, this build is a fusion of 2 passions,” he continues. “I spent my teenage years listening to Homework on my Walkman, while my son’s 1st favourite baby song was Get Lucky. It felt only natural to blend our love for Daft Punk’s music with our love for LEGO.”

His eight-year-old son began building the prototype with LEGO bricks they had at home, and Harboun expanded its design with a digital render. Its flashing lights are the result of a rotating box of transparent bricks inside a pyramid, he reveals. “This 2000-piece set was quite the challenge. LEGO bricks are rarely used for triangular shapes, so we had to find creative ways to make all those angles click.”

“If you love Daft Punk and LEGO as much as we do, show us some ‘Digital Love’ by voting to make this set a reality!” he tells the LEGO Ideas community.

This won’t be the only LEGO iteration of Daft Punk you’ll see this year – the duo will be portrayed in LEGO form in Piece By Piece, the upcoming biopic of Pharrell Williams.

Last week, Daft Punk shared a character poster of their likeness that will be featured in the movie, alongside fellow Williams collaborators Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z – the latter two were even surprised they were included as they weren’t informed by Williams of their involvement.

During an interview with NME in June, Williams explained how the movie was an “amazing experience of history for me”.

He went on: “I can’t tell you how humbled I am to have this masterful storyteller really make sense of my life. It has always been all over the place and made sense to me but not to most. He was able to do it in colour, vividly – brick by brick, piece by piece.”
