James Gunn says the latest DCU Batman casting rumor is completely false.

At this time, nobody has been officially cast in the role of the Dark Knight in Gunn and Peter Safran’s forthcoming DCU. It is known that Batman will be featured in The Brave and the Bold, which is being directed by Andy Muschietti; however, the film does not yet have a release date and it is unclear if said movie will be the first official DCU appearance of the Caped Crusader.

What does seem clear at this time is that the Dark Knight won’t be a middle-aged man.

What did James Gunn say about the Batman casting rumor?

On Threads, Gunn responded to a now-deleted post from @smallcreeno claiming that DC Studios is “reportedly looking for a middle-aged man to play Batman.” Specifically, Gunn said the rumor was “bullsh—.”

He also posted about the matter in an Instagram story, saying, “Sometimes the rumor folks get information wrong – but other times they seem to just make up stuff for clicks out of whole cloth. This is one of the latter.”

Who has been cast in the DCU?

While fans will have to wait to see who is playing Batman in the DCU, several prominent characters have already been cast. David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel in 2025’s Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult is playing his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.

Milly Alcock, meanwhile, is playing Supergirl, while Isabela Merced is playing Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi is playing Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan is playing Metamorpho.

It was recently announced that Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre will play Hal Jordan and John Stewart in the forthcoming Lanterns series, while Frank Grillo is playing Rick Flag Sr., a character who will first debut in 2024’s Creature Commandos before appearing in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.

Peacemaker Season 2 will also be set in the DCU and includes cast members like John Cena, Freddie Stroma, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee. Additionally, a handful of other DCEU characters such as Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller and Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle will be a part of the new continuity.
