The Rex Foundation has shared details regarding its annual benefit event. As a centerpiece for today’s announcement, the charitable organization founded by the Grateful Dead has enlisted two-time Grammy Award-winner Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway as the evening’s musical headliner. The forthcoming occasion will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the famed Fillmore venue in San Francisco.
The occasion marks a first-time experience for Tuttle, whose Fillmore appearance will double as a venue debut. During the event, Tuttle and her band signed on to perform two sets of music, percolating a similar musical ethos as the Grateful Dead by using her blend of ambitious guitar work and profound lyricism, an embedded feature of her Northern California upbringing that draws comparison to the famed jamband’s own bard, Robert Hunter.
Before music takes over the night, the Rex Foundation’s charitable gathering will get underway with a pre-show reception featuring a curated silent auction. Attendees will be able to bid on one-of-a-kind Grateful Dead memorabilia, art, and more. As for sustenance, gourmet food options and beverages from Silver Oak, Twomey, and Winery Sixteen 600, and select microbrews will be provided.
The Rex Foundation was founded by the Grateful Dead in 1983 as a way for the band to support initiatives to cultivate a healthy environment and the arts. The foundation also safeguards the individual and collective rights of Indigenous peoples by strengthening the community through engagement and education initiatives. Since its inception 41 years ago, the Rex Foundation has raised millions of dollars, ultimately financing the band’s giveback.
