Floating is a multipurpose word for Perth (Boorloo) based duo, Have A Good Day. It not only christens their latest release, but also describes their continuous and rapid ascent in the Australian music scene.
Fresh from shows supporting New Zealand’s (Aotearoa) Ladyhawke, as well as fellow WA locals Great Gable and Alter Boy, Have A Good Day are currently in the midst of their own tour, and their first one nationally. There’s another use for Floating in the duo’s lexicon – it’s the name of the tour.
“We absolutely love being on the road,” the duo says. “The tour is only expanding, with us adding dates with east coast artists ISHAN and Montaigne as supports.”
They also tease an unannounced support we’ll just “need to keep our eyes peeled for.”
In between zipping between cities, venues, and gigs, Have A Good Day have found time to link up with Drea, on their fresh new single – (you guessed it) Floating.
A soaring exploration of the “thrill of new love,” Floating is chock full of velvety vocals and synthy 80s influences.
“This tune is one big love song,” Have A Good Day explain. “Loving the best bits and complexities of another.”
“The song describes the ecstasy of being with someone you love, and the dream-like state of moving through life together.”
As for the creative process behind the track, it “came together very quickly.”
“Luke [Minness] studied saxophone, but we rarely feature it in our music,” says the group’s other half James MacCallum.
“The song opens with his airy saxophone tone before moving into lush synths and 80s inspired production. We really focussed on highlighting vocals and lyricism for this track, with all production serving the message and feeling of Floating.”
Vocals are definitely a standout, with Drea’s confident and captivating delivery further elevating the track.
“Drea is an absolute professional,” MacCallum says. “She nailed the song in just a few takes – we’re honoured to have her contribute her artistry to our music!”
And what’s next for Have A Good Day? The duo hint at an EP collaboration set to drop early next year. Bring on 2025!
