Man accused of machete threat at Albuquerque Maverik store

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man is behind bars after police claimed he threatened gas station employees with a machete.

Albuquerque police responded to the Maverik gas station on 98th Street just off of I-40 on Sunday.

The employees told police that a man, identified as Rafael Luna, was not allowed on the property but walked into the store and tried to grab a beer.

APD said the employees asked him to put it back and leave, and when they escorted him outside, he pulled out a machete and threatened them.

Luna took off, and the employees called the police. Officers found Luna at the Paradise Liquors just down the street. He is facing charges including aggravated shoplifting and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
