Air Alert in Tulcea as Drones Spotted Approaching the Border
The Romanian authorities issued, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, a RO-Alert message in the north of Tulcea County, after several drones were observed approaching the border.
10 calls to 112 were registered due to the sound produced by the explosions. The warning, issued after Russia attacked the Ukrainian port of Ismail, which is located approximately 15 kilometers in a straight line from the municipality of Tulcea.
The localities where the Ro-Alert message was issued are: Jijila, Grindu, Văcăreni, Luncaviţa, Isaccea, Niculitel, Somova, Tulcea, Ceatalchioi, Nufăru, Frecăţei, Hamcearca, Maliuc, Pardina, Chilia Veche, C A Rosetti, Sulina, according to the Tulcea Emergency Situation Service (ISU).
“Last night, around 02:20, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations issued an RO-alert message for the Northern area of ​​Tulcea county, informing the population about the possibility of some objects falling from the airspace, on the territory near the border with Ukraine. The RO-alert message was issued after the structures with the role of defense and surveillance of Romania’s borders noticed, around 02:10, several objects (drones) approaching the northern area of ​​Tulcea county”, he said. on Wednesday, ISU Tulcea. The cited source specified that the purpose of the message is to inform and prevent the population in the area where it is transmitted and must be treated as such.
“People must follow the instructions in the message and they must not panic. The defense structures of the country’s territory, as well as those of public order, are prepared to provide all the necessary support to the people who request this and, once again, we clarify the fact that no areas in our territory are targeted by the attacks of the Russian Federation“, ISU said.
Firefighters specify that there were 10 calls to the single emergency number 112 regarding the sound produced by the explosions. Most of the calls were from the municipality of Tulcea, and these signaled the fact that explosions were heard, but there were also calls through which citizens requested information, and the operators of the dispatch center within the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations “DELTA” of Tulcea county gave them provided all the requested information in order to understand that what I hear is happening on Ukrainian territory”, the ISU Tulcea press release also states.
According to the institution, at 03:46, the air alert ceased.
A Russian drone attack overnight damaged port infrastructure and a residential building, injuring three people, in the southern Ukrainian port city of Ismail, local authorities said, as cited by Reuters. Ukrainian officials in Ismail said on Facebook that rescuers were working to clean up the aftermath of the attack.
