Albuquerque Animal Welfare shelters open on Juneteenth holiday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department shelters will be open on the Juneteenth Holiday (Wednesday, June 19).

Bathrooms, Wi-Fi among new upgrades coming to Balloon Fiesta Park

Both the eastside and westside shelters will be open for normal hours and operations. The Lucky Paws Adoption Center at Coronado Mall will also be open to the public. Animal Welfare is offering free microchips and custom pet tags for cats and dogs through July 3. No appointment is needed, people just need to come in to the eastside or westside shelter between 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Animal Welfare is asking for public assistance when they find healthy pets. Due to the shelters being very full, anyone who finds healthy stray pets is asked to have the pet scanned for a microchip and visit websites, social media or message boards to help reunite the pet with its owner.
