Amyl & The Sniffers are back with their first new music in three years: the bold new single U Should Not Be Doing That and its B-side, Facts.
U Should Not Be Doing That is led by a commanding AC/DC-style riff and sees Amy Taylor break down the judgments on women who dare dress in “skimpy” clothing. Facts is a raucous punk number with immediate energy and Taylor demanding, “Come on, give me the facts.”
With their return, Amyl & The Sniffers demonstrate growth heard on 2021’s Comfort To Me and then some. For their first new music in three years, the Melbourne punks teamed up with Nick Launay (Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) to radically continue expanding their sonic palette and lyrical inspirations.
In a statement, Amy Taylor said about the new releases, “Lyrically they’re both pretty self-explanatory. ‘U Should Not Be Doing That‘ makes me laugh, but it’s also, in a way, poking fun at the shock that people still feel at a little bit of skimpy clothing and the bitchy high school way that the music community still is (yes I’m talking to you random 40-year-old metalheads sitting around a table doing lines and bitching about a 28-year-old chick in a band for wearing shorts and “selling out”) but it mainly makes me laugh.
“It’s unconscious and meant nothing at the time of writing it, but now I think it’s a comedic way of rubbing the dog’s nose in its own dog piss after it wee’d on your favourite rug or something.”

This September, Taylor will feature at BIGSOUND as a conference speaker and is set to deliver an insightful keynote that will resonate with thousands of attendees.
In October, Amyl & The Sniffers won three awards at the National Live Music Awards: the coveted Live Act Of The Year, Best Live Act in Victoria and Best Punk/Hardcore Act. Winning the awards came after Taylor starred in the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under and followed her comments on “prejudices” she faces within punk music.
