An active monsoon pattern continues into this upcoming week

Heavy rain has caused more life-threatening flash flooding in the Ruidoso area today. Storms could bring more heavy rain and flash flooding through Wednesday.

Numerous showers and storms developed again Sunday afternoon, especially along and west of the central mountain chain. The Ruidoso area picked up over 2″ of rain in some areas due to training thunderstorms, and this caused dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding. Rain is finally wrapping up in the Sacramento Mountains, but some some showers will continue overnight and into Monday morning, especially in northwest New Mexico.

An active monsoon pattern continues through Wednesday. Most of New Mexico will continue to see daily chances for afternoon showers and storms, with the exception of far southeastern New Mexico. Storms will again be capable of heavy rainfall which could lead to more burn scar flash flooding.

Drier weather moves in for the Fourth of July, along with hotter temperatures. Some moisture will move back into the state with a backdoor cold front Friday. However, the best chances for rain will stay along and east of the central mountain chain in eastern New Mexico.
