On Friday evening, Tedeschi Trucks Band took its Deuces Wild tour to Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for night one of two at the 25,000-capacity outdoor venue. Before the headliners took the stage, openers Margo Price and Greensky Bluegrass delivered separate sets to start the night. Later on, the former continued her current tour trend of sitting in with TTB during their encore, while Greensky Bluegrass’ Anders Beck made his debut appearance with the husband and wife duo before Price’s arrival for a collective rip on Derek and the Dominos’ “Keep on Growing.”
Beginning their night with an original, TTB stepped into “Anyhow” before the concert’s initial cover from this specific group of players, The Beatles’ prized “I’ve Got a Feeling,” which preluded follow-ups, “Circles Round the Sun” and “Let Me Get By.” A high point was carved into a live debut of Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up in Blue,” which took on new life under the guidance of its borrowers. Chuck Wilis’ “I Feel So Bad” and The Wood Brothers’ “Smoke Ring Halo” set up a pairing of “I Want More” and Jeff Beck’s “Beck’s Bolero.”
After tapping into material from Dr. John’s book of songs, TTB welcomed Beck and his Dobro to the stage for a high-powered and lively capture of “Keep on Growing” and an instrumental conversation between Trucks and the night’s guest. Following the sit-in, the band closed out its main frame, ultimately returning for the night’s encore with Price in tow. The Southern songstress added her talents to Bob Dylan’s classic “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” and The Coasters, “Let’s Get Stoned.”
Tedeschi Trucks Band returned the next night, closing its SPAC follow up with more help from Price, who turned up for Leon Russell’s “Stranger in a Strange Land,” a cover which populated once again during Monday night’s concert at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, N.H. Also included during the Sept. 1 show was a supersized Price included encore, which marked her final concert on tour with TTB as a special guest.
Initially, Price showed up to assist on George Jones’ “Color on the Blues” prior to the arrival of the rest of her band, who sat in with their host for ensuing covers from Sly & the Family Stones’ archive, including “Sing a Simple Song” and “I Want to Take You Higher.” TTB will continue its fall dates at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheatre on Sept. 21, after Bourbon & Beyond on Sept. 20. Tickets remain on sale.
Margo Price will arrive in Oregon this weekend to participate in a charity concert billed alongside Oteil & Friends.
