With the new NFL season days away from commencing, most teams seem to have finalized their rosters. One team that has been rumored to undergo personnel changes for some time are reigning champions the Kansas City Chiefs. The AFC West division outfit is currently managed by veteran Andy Reid, who is set to take charge of his 26th season as a head coach. However, the NFL legend has long been touted to hang up his board, having turned 66 this year. But how credible are these speculations, linking Andy Reid to retirement?

Here are all the available details regarding the seasoned tactician’s supposed retirement plan.

Has Andy Reid announced his NFL retirement?

At the time of writing, Andy Reid has yet to confirm his permanent departure from the NFL.

Andy Reid recently addressed retirement rumors during his appearance on the Scoop City podcast. The former offensive tackle stated that he has left the decision to leave football to fate. “I remember when my parents retired, I said, ‘How do you know it’s time to retire? I mean, you hit 65 and then you retire? What is it?’,” recalled Reid. “They said ‘You’ll just know. You’ll know when it when it’s time to go.’”

Despite not having thought about his retirement, Andy Reid acknowledged the fact that he was at the tail end of his managerial career. “I enjoy doing what I’m doing. I know I’m on the bottom side of this thing, and not on the top side of it. So it’s coming,” admitted Reid. But I don’t know when it is. I’ll be 71 at the end of this contract. And that seems like really old. So we’ll see where it all goes.”

With the iconic coach determined to continue, he has the opportunity to add another record to his glittering career. He famously guided the Kansas City Chiefs to two consecutive Super Bowl titles in 2023 and 2024. As such, Andy Reid has the chance to become the first coach in history to lead his side to three back-to-back Super Bowl wins before retiring. The Chiefs kick off their new NFL season on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
