APS to receive funding to purchase new ‘clean’ buses

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Public Schools will receive $6,900,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency to purchase 20 new “clean school buses.” The buses will replace older, diesel-fueled school buses.

The money is being dispersed through the EPA’s 2023 Clean School Bus Program rebate competition. These rebates will help school districts purchase over 3,400 clean school buses—92% of which will be electric— as part of the effort to transition to zero-emission vehicles and produce cleaner air in and around schools and communities, according to the EPA.

To date, the EPA has awarded almost $3 billion to fund approximately 8,500 school bus replacements at over 1,000 schools.
