Artificial Intelligence is not a feature

Since Chat GPT came out in late 2022, everybody has been talking about Artificial Intelligence. It seems like everything is AI, but it is not.

What do I mean?

I know Artificial Intelligence has many benefits; it can help with many repetitive tasks and does it faster; and it is letting a lot of people out of their jobs as well. Artificial intelligence is real, and now it is also useful.

However, my point is that you cannot add it anywhere. I mean, you can, but this costs a bunch of money, takes a lot of time, and the most important thing, is it worth it?

Every time we pitch a new project, we come across the typical question; ‘Can you add some Artificial Intelligence here?’
Again, ‘Yes, we can, but to do what?’

It is hard to say that almost every answer is nonsense. Nobody knows what to do with AI, but everybody wants to include it somehow. It is marketing.

And this is happening everywhere. From small companies to huge ones. Everybody has a degree in Artificial intelligence and 10 years of experience making prompts when Chat GPT was released around two or three years ago.

I also have to say that there were a few companies that stopped and thought. It is not a good idea to tell everybody their product is using Artificial Intelligence when the user can’t feel the difference, is it? If it is not useful for the customer, it will fail.

Can Artificial Intelligence be useful?

Yes, of course, but AI must never be a feature.
It is better to start thinking about what my customers or users want, and not the other way around. What can my product or project do to solve their needs?
Once we know what we have to do, it is time to work. If artificial intelligence can help us to achieve our goals, we will use it.

AI must never be a feature. It is a tool like any other. It must be used when needed.
