18 years after the opening of the first store – Auchan Titan, the retailer has developed a multi-format network with currently more than 440 stores nationwide under the Auchan, ATAC, MyAuchan and Simply brands serving, on average, more than 350,000 customers daily .

The first retailer to launch the generalized discount concept in Romania, Auchan maintains its unwavering promise to offer Romanians low prices every day, with a strong focus on local products and producers, healthy eating and responsibility towards the environment.

Multi-format development

In the first 9 years, Auchan focused on the development of the hypermarket format, reaching 33 stores in 18 cities by 2015. In the next 3 years, it launched the convenience format and the online store, and in 2019 it opened the first supermarket.

In 2023, Auchan completes one of the largest projects in retail, the integration of approximately 400 MyAuchan stores in Petrom stations. Also in 2023, he introduced the hyper-discount concept, present today in ATAC Hiper Discount stores. This year, Auchan marked a local first by inaugurating the first 100% autonomous store, Auchan Go. It also launched the Simply by Auchan franchise.

Currently, Auchan is present in all counties, with a network consisting of 26 hypermarkets, 7 ATAC discount hypermarkets, 8 supermarkets, 395 MyAuchan stores, most of them in Petrom stations, 4 Simply by Auchan stores and an omnichannel customer strategy.

Strong partnerships with local producers and permanent support for Romanian brands

Auchan supports the local economy and Romanian producers, with over 90% of the food range being made up of products from Romanian companies. On the shelves of Auchan hypermarkets there are approx. 50,000 products, of which about 1,300 are own brand food products. Of these, over 1,000 are produced in Romania, with local producers. Moreover, Auchan has so far developed 85 Romanian agri-food product chains, i.e. long-term collaborations with 50 local producers, through which Auchan offers customers products with controlled quality and traceability, with a local, authentic taste.

Over 7,000 jobs created and over 50 professions

With more than 7,000 employees working in more than 50 jobs in the Auchan ecosystem, the retailer is one of the largest employers in the country and offers an inclusive work environment with numerous promotion opportunities and development programs, along with competitive benefits packages and compensation, with the aim of permanently supporting the well-being of employees. The average seniority in the company is 8 years, while almost a third of the employees have been working at Auchan for 10 years. Moreover, more than 340 of them have been part of the Auchan team since the company was founded.

Sustainable business and impact in local communities

Integrating care for the environment into its core values, Auchan invests heavily in sustainability projects. The company constantly runs awareness campaigns for responsible consumption and has implemented numerous projects focused on recycling, combating food waste, reducing plastic and promoting the circular economy along the entire value chain. Equally, the company reconfirms its commitment to local communities by annually supporting numerous social projects and solidarity campaigns.

The company states a turnover with taxes in 2023 of over 1.6 billion Euros.
