Does Bad Boys 4 set up a Bad Boys 5 sequel to Ride or Die?
Bad Boys 4 doesn’t explicitly set up the franchise for a sequel. The ending is fairly clean-cut and optimistic for the main characters. Both Marcus and Mike make it through the film fairly unscathed, and the drug conspiracy is foiled. While there are a few plot points that Bad Boys 5 could explore, it’d be a stretch to find one that wasn’t wrapped up nicely by the end of Ride or Die.
However, a Bad Boys: Ride or Die sequel is really riding on one thing: money. Bad Boys for Life made $427 million on a $90 million budget. If Bad Boys 4 performs similarly, there will almost certainly be a Bad Boys 5. These films aren’t known for their complex lore or cohesive plots. Ride or Die itself retconned elements of previous Bad Boys films to fit into its tail of drug cartels and conspiracies. So, finding something new for Marcus and Mike to do wouldn’t be a huge challenge.
The biggest challenge behind producing Bad Boys 5 would Be Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s ages. Smith is 55, and Lawrence is 59. While the two are in good health, action flicks take their toll, and we may see the two pass the torch to a new generation in a future Bad Boys film. For now, there’s no official word that a sequel to Ride or Die is in the works.
