Bear Trap Campground to stay closed through next year

SOCORRO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Forest Service has announced a new order for the closure of Bear Trap Campground.

The campground is in the Magdalena Ranger District, and officials noted flood and fire damages have created unsuitable conditions for visitors.

They said the campground suffered a lot of damage during and after the fire. They also noted the bathrooms aren’t functional and are considered unsanitary. The road leading to the camp is in poor condition, and flash flooding is still a threat as well.
