Birds Of Tokyo Announce 'Acoustic/Electric' Headline Tour

Birds Of Tokyo are back with a new single and accompanying tour, with the latter being their first proper headlining tour of Australia since pre-COVID times.

Today, the Perth alt-rockers have unveiled a new single, the exciting Heartbreakers Bar, which takes the band back to their roots with reckless energy anchored by acoustic instrumentation.

With a tongue-in-cheek music video featuring a “busking” bar, Birds Of Tokyo had the idea of performing the new song live, as well as the opportunity to reinterpret their expansive discography on their upcoming tour. Check out the music video below.

For the first time, Birds Of Tokyo’s The Heartbreakers Bar tour will feature an opening set of “acoustic busking mode” before plugging in the electric guitars for a second set of hits.

Birds Of Tokyo On Eclectic Gigs: ‘It Makes Me Remember When This Band Was Trying To Find Its Feet’

The Heartbreakers Bar tour will see Birds Of Tokyo travel across the country starting in October and wrapping up in February 2025. The band will perform a string of festivals over the next few months and appear as part of Victoria’s newly announced 2024 ALWAYS LIVE program, which will bring back the Live At The Chapel series in Prahran.

Starting the tour at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, Birds Of Tokyo then head to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, Melbourne’s Forum, Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall, and Perth’s Astor Theatre. Pre-sale tickets will be available from 10 am on Monday, 19 August, before the general sale opens at 10 am on Wednesday, 21 August. You can find more ticketing information on the band’s website.

In a statement, the band’s frontman Ian Kenny said of the tour, “It’s been over five years since we’ve played in our old stomping grounds like The Enmore and The Forum, so we’re really looking forward to finally getting back into those rooms that everyone loves.”

Guitarist Adam Spark added, “It’s been amazing to appear on all these big outdoor shows and to collaborate with those great orchestras over recent years, but these two-act gigs will allow us to dig a bit deeper into our catalogue and play some songs we haven’t done in ages.

“We always like to shake things up a bit, so doing an acoustic set as well as a normal one should keep us on our toes. Hopefully, it’ll be a bit of extra fun for the audiences, too.”
