On June 22 and 23, Bob Dylan continued participating in the Willie Nelson-hosted Outlaw Music Festival. Notably, Nelson was not in attendance for the multi-set shows after doctors advised that the legendary artist take four days of rest after he reportedly was not feeling up to snuff. Instead, fellow event participant Dylan seized the opportunity to accentuate his concert display with a debut, bust out, and return to the Grateful Dead’s repertoire on “Stella Blue” during Saturday’s stand at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, N.C.

The Tar Heel State gig saw Dylan commence his stage time on his Highway 61 Revisited title track, prior to the onset of his bust out, the first “Shooting Star” since Aug. 1, 2013, which featured the bard on harmonica. From his Old Mercy canon, Dylan moved through time, arriving at the 1997 Time Out of Mind originator, “Love Sick.” Ensuing covers dotted his setlist with the emergence of Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie” and The Fleetwoods’ “Mr. Blue.”

On the Tempest cut “Early Roman Kings,” Dylan picked up the harmonica, ultimately returning to the free reed woodwind instrument for “Under the Red Sky,” an arrival after the rarity “Can’t Wait.” A high point of Dylan’s frame was his interpretation of the Grateful Dead’s “Stella Blue.” Notably, the cover served as the artist’s first 2024 play of this particular song after entering his live repertoire last year at Port Chester, N.Y.’s Capitol Theatre, a venue location known for its Dead-ties.

Dylan continued his single-set performance with a live debut of Paul Davis’ “Six Days on the Road,” before closing his Saturday stand, the artist pulled out the harmonica, adding blows to “Soon After Midnight” and “Ballad of a Thin Man.” Prior to ending his June 22 performance, the musician played through “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight.” Dylan returned to the stage on Sunday, June 23, in continuation of Outlaw dates, only this time at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, N.C. The artist played an identical set to Saturday’s display, sans debuts or bust-outs. Scroll down to view setlists from the weekend. Read a recap of Friday’s frame here

Continuing his participation in the Outlaw Music Festival, Dylan will resume appearances on June 26 in Virginia Beach, Va. Tickets remain on sale.
