ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – Bonito Lake near Ruidoso will reopen this weekend but only for fishing. The lake was scheduled to open earlier this summer but was closed the day before its reopening due to the Blue 2 Fire. Before that fire, the 2012 Little Bear Fire burned a large area and was followed by heavy rains that washed gravel and debris into the lake.
After years of hard work, the lake was restored last year. The City of Alamogordo has begun restoring properties along Rio Bonito and Bonito Lake for recreational activities.
