Boxer arrested for allegedly causing damage at Beverly Hills hotel

Boxer Ryan Garcia was arrested Saturday, June 8 on suspicion of felony vandalism for allegedly causing an estimated $15,000 worth of damage at a hotel in Beverly Hills, authorities said.

ESPN reported Garcia, 25, was arrested at 5:45 p.m. Saturday after a driver dropped him off at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, 9850 Wilshire Blvd. Hotel staff contacted police.

The hotel decided to press charges once police arrived. It was not known what kind of damage the boxer allegedly inflicted at the hotel, ESPN reported.

After he was booked at the Beverly Hills Police Department jail, police said the 15-time national amateur champion complained of a medical issue and was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

A Beverly Hills Police Department watch commander confirmed Garcia had been arrested but had no other immediate comment.

Garcia’s attorney, Darin Chavez, told ESPN the arrest comes at “an extraordinarily challenging time for Ryan, as he has been grappling with devastating news regarding his mother’s health.”
