In the second part of Bridgerton Season 3, Lord Greer appears in the fifth episode as a match for Cressida Cowper. While his appearance is quite brief, his impact on Cressida greatly influences the plot. Her arranged marriage to Lord Greer by her parents leads to Cressida being desperate in her actions in the latter half of the Netflix series. Here’s what we know about Lord Greer in Bridgerton Season 3.

Who is Lord Greer in Bridgerton Season 3?

Lord Greer is a rather puritanical member of the ton who accepts an arranged marriage to Cressida Cowper after she is unable to secure a match in the first three seasons of the show.

The series doesn’t reveal too many details about Lord Greer, but he is perceived to be quite old, with Eloise Bridgerton believing that he is “on death’s doorstep.” Cressida’s father likely overlooked this in the match, as Lord Greer has convinced him that “he is the picture of health” according to Cressida. She hopes that the marriage while have her turn out similar to the formidable Lady Danbury, where his death would allow her to use his money and throw balls.

However, the marriage to Lord Greer becomes unappealing upon her meeting him in person. He wishes Cressida to become a reflection of him, stating that she would be forced to wear somber clothes in brown or gray and not be allowed to gossip or attend more than one ball a month. The hosts of the ball would need to be of “strong moral character.” Lord Greer also does care for music or modern art, which he finds scandalous and filth. Furthermore, he expects around four or five children with her, a prospect that must seem distressing to Cressida given their age gap.

This fate is so harrowing to Cressida that she later decides to pursue the £5000 reward offered by Queen Charlotte for information on Lady Whistledown as an escape for her match. More than that, she decides to falsely declare herself as Lady Whistledown, partly because her being a supposed gossipmonger would disgust Lord Greer. And indeed he chooses to rescind his marriage proposal, to the fury of Cressida’s father. And that’s the very last we hear about Lord Greer, at least in Season 4 of the show.
