Fifty years after first setting out with the E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen still lives his life on the road. Today, as fans look forward to The Boss’ return after his U.S. summer tour finale on Sept. 15, we’ve received something to tide us over with a new trailer for Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, a forthcoming documentary on the star’s touring from Hulu and Disney+.

First announced in May, Road Diary sets out to capture the Springsteen and The E Street Band’s 2023-2024 world tour with unprecedented behind-the-scenes coverage. Today’s sneak peek imparts an impression of just how close that view is, sharing the artist’s heartfelt reflections on himself, his band and his legacy in vulnerable, honest accounts. From the early assertion that touring is “How I justify my existence here on earth” to the heartfelt recollection that “You never get over the guys you played with for that long, but it’s too late to stop now,” Springsteen’s statements here lay out some core themes for this latest act in his career: life, memory, and community.

This new chronicle of Springsteen’s story in 2024 arrives from director Thom Zimny, who previously collaborated with the artist on the Western Stars film and Springsteen on Broadway. Following the band from its earliest rehearsals to sold-out arenas around the world, Road Diary captures an unprecedented look into how the icon develops his tours, from meticulous setlist crafting to working with the band to “shake the cobwebs off” and determine the “rhythm of the show.” Beyond interviews with the frontman and ensemble, the film will feature never-before-seen archival footage and professionally shot video of the band’s performances earlier this year.

Even as Springsteen continues to draw tens of thousands of attendees and deliver top-tier performances, a specter of retirement looms, as fans and onlookers alike are conditioned to expect the classic rock star fade to black. In today’s trailer, Springsteen again affirms his commitment to keeping the show alive, saying, “I plan on continuing until the wheels fall off for as long as the audience will follow me.” This echoes his statement against “farewell tour bullshit” in Philadelphia last month, where he guaranteed, “I ain’t going anywhere!”

Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will land on Hulu and Disney+ in October, with no exact launch date confirmed yet. Springsteen will return to the stage on Oct. 31 for an eight-stop Canadian tour to close out his year of touring. For tickets and more information, visit brucespringsteen.net/tour/.
