Ahead of Season 11’s finale, Haily confirmed her exit from the series with Variety. She discussed reaching out to showrunners Dick Wolf and Gwen Sigan during the end of her sixth season. The actress clarified to the team that she wants to continue the show for one more year, with the character being properly sent off in its last season. The actress further stated:
”It was a hard decision — very, very hard. I love everybody on the show — cast, crew, producers, writers, everybody. It’s such an incredible team. I was just curious what was out there for me and wanted to switch it up, and that was it.”
As such, Spiridakos stepped away from Chicago PD after Season 11, ending her successful eight-year stint.
What Happened to Hailey Upton after Chicago PD Season 11’s finale?
Tracy Spiridakos’ character, Hailey Upton, left the Chicago PD to start afresh.
The Chicago PD Season 11 finale showcased Upton and the Intelligence Unit’s search for Sergeant Hank Voight. Voight was abducted by a dangerous killer, Frank Matson, which left the whole department, including Upton, worried. While Voight was rescued, Upton was severely affected by the traumatic events of Season 11. As a result, she decided to quit the squad to start a fresh chapter in her life.
Will Tracy Spiridakos’ Hailey Upton return in Chicago PD Season 12?
As of now, Tracy Spiridakos’ return to the series seems unlikely.
As mentioned above, Spiridakos made up her mind from her sixth season on the show that she did not wish to continue any longer. Season 12 has premiered, and there are no signs of Upton’s comeback in the series. Moreover, the series has witnessed the new addition of Detective Emily Martel, who is presumably Upton’s replacement.
