Cuban funk master Cimafunk has unveiled his latest seductive single, “Dime.” A preview off his impending album, Pa’ Tu Cuerpa, due on August 23, the track serves as a love-dripped entry in the artist’s already steamy catalog, following “Pretty,” a collaboration with fellow New Orleans resident Big Freedia and “Catalina” featuring Monsieur Periné. A slow burner destined for summer playlist tinged with R&B swag that mimics the sultry sway of island palms, “Dime” opens up Cimafunk’s passionate side with pleas of “Cómo tú quieras me sirve,” which translates to “However you want it, it works for me,” served with a cry of “Dime,” or “Tell Me.” To complement the lyrics that arrived on the fly while in the studio, the instrumentals lean on the mellow side while maintaining a steady, dancefloor-ready beat.
“Dime is a special track – a beautiful and emotional process for me from the song’s creation to the video. It’s a song about surrendering to love. The vibe that producer Alfredo Gonzales created with the music immediately transported me to a place of tenderness and love. Almost the entirety of the lyrics came out improvised from a single take in the studio. I remember as the verse formed, it was the spark to know that the song was very special. Then pairing it with the softness of the sound was the confirmation of a perfect and true song.”
The music video, which arrives in tandem with “Dime,” was filmed in the bayou of Cimafunk’s adopted New Orleans home and captures scenes of the artist’s choice environment, particularly the Crescent City countryside and surrounding swamp-dominated landscape. The location adds heat, mimicking the song’s feel with permeating humidity.
Cimafunk’s latest single arrives during a prolific period for the artist, who made history this spring as the first Cuban-born musician to perform at Coachella while also entertaining on lauded festival stages, including New Orleans’s Jazz & Heritage Festival. This summer, Cimafunk will perform at the Newport Jazz Fest, Outside Lands and more.
