City of Las Vegas cancels Fourth of July fiestas

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Las Vegas canceled the Fourth of July fiestas due to the “water crisis” the city is facing.

The fiestas were scheduled for July 4 to July 7 and were estimated 11,000 people to the city. “This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment and inconvenience it may cause to all those who were eagerly anticipating the event. The priority at this time is providing all available water to our residents for essential needs,” a news release from the city read.

City of Las Vegas residents asked to restrict water usage

Las Vegas has been dealing with water issues since Friday as a result of flooding along the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Fire burn scar, which brought ash, silt, and debris into the Gallinas River and Bradner Dam, halting operations at the water treatment plant. The water crisis is affecting the entire City of Las Vegas and surrounding areas, approximately 15,000 people, the city said in the news release.

The city is asking residents who utilize city water to restrict water usage.
