City of Las Vegas: Water usage exceeds normal consumption rate as production remains low

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Las Vegas says it is seeing a much larger increase in water usage and is asking the community to adhere to water restrictions in place. The city on Thursday said water consumption on Wednesday was 1.9 million gallons, which is 200,000 gallons more than the normal consumption amount before restrictions went into place.

The city reminded the community that water should only be used for essential needs, which include consumption, personal hygiene, medical needs, and meal preparations. In addition, toilets should only be flushed when absolutely necessary, and shower times should be limited.

The city is also asking residents to strictly limit the use of dishwashers, washing machines, and other high-usage appliances.

According to the latest update, Las Vegas is not seeing as much of an increase in water production as it should.

Water production amounts:

Sunday, June 23: 3,025,000 gallons

Monday, June 24: 2,408,325 gallons

Tuesday, June 25: 354,158 gallons

Wednesday, June 26: 3,668,742 gallons

Thursday, June 27: 3,843,744 gallons
