Coalition Announces Presidential Elections: Nov 24 & Dec 8; Parliament ballot: Dec 1

The governing coalition has finalized discussions on the electoral calendar for the presidential and parliamentary elections, says a joint PSD-PNL press release.

“Taking into account the opinions expressed by other political groups, the Coalition representatives reached a consensus on the presidential election schedule as follows:

– First round on November 24
– Second round on December 8.

Additionally, an agreement was made to hold the parliamentary elections on December 1″, reads the press release.

PSD and PNL leaders met on Thursday to agree on the electoral calendar. Nicolae Ciucă, Lucian Bode and Cătălin Predoiu participated from PNL, and Marcel Ciolacu, Sorin Grindeanu, Paul Stănescu, Mihai Tudose and Marian Neacșu from PSD.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu met for two days during consultations with the representatives of the parties to discuss the opportunity of organizing the two types of elections, after the disagreements with the PNL on the dates of these elections increased.
During these consultations, most of the participating formations said that they want the elections to be held on time. In addition, the possibility of combining a round of the presidential elections with the parliamentary elections was also mentioned in the discussions.
USR and REPER pleaded for early elections, while UDMR spoke about the need to separate parliamentary and presidential elections and organize presidential elections in October.
The Force of Right (Forta Dreptei) requested that the elections be organized within the deadline, but rejected the idea of combining the second round with the parliamentary elections.
PUSL showed that the decision already taken in the PSD-PNL Coalition should be respected, that the presidential elections be organized in September.
The leader of AUR, George Simion, said that his formation had prepared for the presidential elections in September.
Reunited on Monday at the meeting of the National Political Bureau, the leadership of the PNL unanimously agreed that the presidential elections should take place on time, namely in November, declared the president of the formation, Nicolae Ciucă. Unanimously, all the members of the National Political Bureau agreed that we should continue to support the holding of presidential elections on time,” said the liberal leader.
Meanwhile, PSD and PNL continued to tease each other. “Rareş and the company have great difficulties in seeing their soldier in the 2nd round, hence the pirouettes, hence the stupid explanations. “Because of this lack of honor, the PNL has not won the parliamentary elections since 1937,” said the PSD spokesman, Lucian Romaşcanu, on Monday.
“What the game played by PSD in the last few days shows us: PSD is struggling to induce the idea that Ciucă would not enter the second round, but reality shows us that, in all scenarios, Ciolacu does not emerge victorious from the second round. Now that he also missed forcing the anticipated presidential elections, he even missed any chance to reach the second round himself. Until November, he will be in fourth place regardless of the percentages the party will have”, said the liberal Florin Roman in his turn, in a post on Facebook.
