The gesture took place over the weekend, just before the band took to the stage at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend for a headline set.

According to Saundra Glenn – a fan sharing an update on X/Twitter yesterday (May 27) – the singer went out of his way to pick her up in a Mercedes when he saw that she had mobility issues.

Alongside a selfie Glenn shared, which saw her posing with Martin in the car, she also revealed more details about the encounter in the caption. “That moment when Chris Martin @Coldplay saw me struggling to walk, had his car stop and gave me a lift. Blooming amazing,” she wrote.

“Can’t believe this happened. What a decent bloke. We had a nice chat too.”

The Luton local has also gone on to share more about the frontman coming to her aid in an interview with the BBC, revealing that she struggles with osteoarthritis and “a dodgy right hip”. On the day, she explained, she had paused to rest while on the way to the show, when the Mercedes pulled up next to her and Martin invited her in.

“When we got to the artist area, he didn’t leave me there, he said, ‘Get the golf buggy and make sure Saundra reaches her destination,’” she recalled to the outlet. “It’s the fact he’s conscious of disability, he’s such a kind person…

“He gave me an act of kindness that I’ll forever be grateful for, and he’s given Luton its cool back, thank you.”

Coldplay would then go on to make headlines again, as they played a huge, career-spanning set to the crowd as part of their headline show, and briefly made a nod to the local football team.

Addressing the crowd, the band noted the amount of press Coldplay had received pleading them to change the lyrics for their hit ‘Yellow’ to ‘Orange’, the home colours of Luton Town FC.

Though Coldplay did go on to play ‘Yellow’ unchanged, Martin did roll out a special song he wrote in honour of the Hatters, fittingly called ‘Orange’. “We didn’t win all our matches, we didn’t win the cup / But when you get knocked down in Luton, you always get back up!” and “I was born in love with Luton, and I’m always gonna be” he sang.

During the set, the band also caught fans off guard by bringing out ‘Espresso’ hitmaker Sabrina Carpenter for a surprise guest appearance. The collaboration saw her perform Coldplay’s song ‘Magic’ at their headline set.
