Competition Council Reviews Guala Closures’ Acquisition of Astir Vitagiannis

The Competition Council is analyzing the transaction by which Guala Closures S.p.A., Italy, intends to take over Astir Vitagiannis Bros. S.A., Greece, including its subsidiary, Coleus Packiging Proprietary Limited, Republic of South Africa.

Guala Closures S.p.A., Italy, part of the Investindustrial S.A. group, is active in the production and supply of beverage closures made of various materials, including recyclable materials for spirits, wine, oil and vinegar, water and other beverages.

The products of Guala Closures S.p.A. are also distributed in Romania. Astir Vitagiannis Bros. S.A., Greece, is a manufacturer and distributor of metal crown caps.

The company has a production unit in Greece, the products being distributed in Europe, including Romania, and internationally.

Coleus Packaging Proprietary Limited, Republic of South Africa, controlled by Astir Closures S.p.A., specializes in the manufacture of metal crown closures. The distribution and sale of the products is carried out entirely on the African continent.

In accordance with the provisions of the Competition Law (no. 21/1996), this operation must be authorized by the Competition Council, which will evaluate it in order to establish its compatibility with a normal competitive environment and issue a decision within the terms provided by the law.
