Cooking Vinyl Australia, one of the country’s beloved record labels and artist services organisations, has rebranded: it’s now called Civilians.
While the company has a new name, it’s continuing the same mission of sharing and amplifying great music.
Announcing the rebrand on Instagram, the Civilians team shared, “After 11 amazing years, we’re kicking off a new chapter with the same passion for music that’s always driven us. From day one, it’s been about great music for the people — not the people in the know, not the people in charge, just the people.”
The post continued that since launching Cooking Vinyl Australia in 2013, the team has collaborated with a “diverse range of international and local labels, alongside directly signed artists.”
Outlining the diversity featured on the Civilians roster, the team listed artists, including King Stingray, Parkway Drive, Emma Donovan, and Fanny Lumsden, with the key thing that unites them: great music.
The post concluded, “Our mission remains the same: it’s all about great music. Same team, same dedication to backing artists who create records that truly matter.”

Cooking Vinyl, which originated in the UK in 1986, has garnered a reputation as one of Europe’s finest artist-focussed labels. Over the years, it has represented a wide range of artists, from Billy Bragg to The Cult to Amanda Palmer to The Prodigy.
The Australian offshoot also stands by diversity. In addition to the acts mentioned above, Cooking Vinyl Australia is home to Ceres, Jebediah, The Southern River Band, and Windwaker, with label partners including Greyscale, Resist Records, Run For Cover, Thirty Tigers, and Dine Alone.
