Days after announcing her plans to embark on her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun farewell tour, Cyndi Lauper has explained why she’s chosen to say goodbye.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night (5 June), the ‘80s pop icon – now 70 years old – was asked why 2024 is the year she plans to farewell her fans.
“I’m strong now, but I don’t know what I’m going to be like in four years,” Lauper said before standing up and mimicking herself needing a walker down the track.
She added, “For me, I wanted to have a chance to do this when I’m feeling strong. I want to celebrate with people. Really celebrate with people, and make it fun.”
In addition to discussing the farewell tour, Lauper also spoke about her new documentary, Let The Canary Sing, which landed on Paramount+ this week.

Lauper’s farewell tour will take place throughout October, November, and December. It begins in Montreal on 18 October and ends in Chicago on 5 December.
It is unclear whether this is the beginning of a more extensive farewell run that also visits Australia.
Lauper joined fellow music legend Sir Rod Stewart for a string of shows in Australia last March.
In a review of the pair’s show at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, The Music’s Andy Hazel complimented Lauper’s performance, writing: “Her dynamic vocals, her distinctive look, and her infectious, welcoming confidence can bewitch a kid as quickly as it can pull a listener 40 years into the past.
