DAILY NEWS FOOTBALL TOP 10 

1. Sierra Canyon (1-1 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

Jaden Nickens scored the Trailblazers’ only touchdown of the night on a short pass from quarterback Wyatt Becker in a 35-7 loss to JSerra. JSerra’s defense is tough, and things won’t get any easier for Sierra Canyon when it plays Oaks Christian on Friday.

2. Oaks Christian (1-0 overall, 0-0 Marmonte League)

The Lions scored all of their points in the first half of Friday’s 24-17 win over Chaminade. Deshonne Redeaux rushed for two touchdowns and 139 yards before leaving the game due to an apparent injury. Axel Eason threw for 204 yards with one interception in his first start as the starting quarterback. Oaks Christian’s defense limited Chaminade to 57 yards rushing.

3. Chaminade (0-1 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

The Eagles held on tight and prevented Oaks Christian from putting up any points in the second half. Devin Olmande hauled in five passes for 86 yards and a touchdown and Logan Carpenter logged 81 receiving yards, nine tackles and caused a fumble.

Next: at Cathedral Catholic, 7 p.m. Friday

4. Newbury Park (1-0 overall, 0-0 Conejo Coast)

The Panthers opened their season with a 52-15 win over Millikan. Brady Smigiel completed 23 of 36 passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 77 yards. Alberto Ayon had nine receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown, while Shane Rosenthal intercepted two passes and hauled in six passes for 80 yards.

Next: at Arroyo Grande, 7 p.m. Friday

5. Simi Valley (2-0 overall, 0-0 Marmonte League)

Simi Valley slipped past Valencia 49-41 on Friday to get a major boost in the rankings. Tagg Harrison went 10 of 16 passing for 165 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, 16 Pioneers recorded tackles and Izak Simpson led the way with 11 total tackles, three tackles for a loss, three sacks and a fumble recovery.

Next: at Royal, 7 p.m. Friday

6. Valencia (0-1 overall, 0-0 Foothill League)

The Vikings dropped their season opener against Simi Valley but can get back on track this week. Brady Bretthauer passed for 225 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Brian Bonner rushed for three touchdowns and 174 yards and Nick Seymour had five receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown. Seymour, Ronald Bruner and Jack Youngkin each recorded an interception.

7. Thousand Oaks (0-1 overall, 0-0 Conejo Coast)

The Lancers outscored El Modena 13-0 in the third quarter before falling in overtime 41-34. Thousand Oaks has back-to-back road games before returning home to play West Ranch on Sept. 13.

8. Paraclete (1-0 overall, 0-0 Angelus League)

Joseph Mesa passed for 406 yards and four touchdowns with one interception while rushing for 15 yards and two touchdowns. Receivers Adrian Jones and Savaughn Gentle scored two touchdowns apiece. Savaughn Gentle and Stacy Gentle each recorded two pass deflections and Jeffrey Patino had eight total tackles.

Next: vs. Leuziner, 7:30 p.m. Friday

9. Notre Dame (0-1 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

Steele Pizzella threw for 199 yards, two touchdowns and rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown in the Knights’ 42-21 loss to Downey. Elliot Cooper tallied 99 yards receiving and Tre Fernandez had 50 yards receiving and one touchdown. Max Martin-Beckmann had seven tackles, one tackle for a loss, one interception and one pass deflection.

10. Birmingham Charter (0-0 overall, 0-0 West Valley League)

Did not play last week.
