Darren Hayes To Host Australian ‘An Evening With’ Events To Launch Memoir

Darren Hayes will host three special events this November to celebrate the launch of his memoir, Unlovable.

Appearing in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, Hayes will be in conversation with ABC’s Patricia Karvelas (Sydney), music journalist and broadcaster Sosefina Fuamoli (Melbourne), and author and podcaster Yumi Stynes (Brisbane).

Sharing the news on social media today (9 October), the Savage Garden frontman wrote: “Excited to share I’ll be doing three special events in Australia for the launch of my memoir. With limited seats available, make sure to get in early to ensure you don’t miss out – I will be signing books after each experience. These are going to be three very special evenings.”

Darren Hayes: ‘I’m Making Music That’s Sexual & If It’s Uncomfortable For You, That’s A You Problem’

Hayes announced the release of Unlovable back in May. The memoir has been described as a “candid” and “unfiltered” portrait of Darren Hayes as he “takes control of his life story.”

The blurb reads:

But the reality of his life was much more complicated than the constraints of a three-minute pop song. In Unlovable, for the first time, Darren recounts the events and circumstances that shaped his unique life: from childhood trauma and his journey with depression to the dizzying heights of worldwide fame in Savage Garden and everything in between.

Told in his own lyrical words, Unlovable is a magical dark fairytale that reclaims the terrors and obstacles of his past to reveal the fabulous artist he has become.

You can pre-order Unlovable here ahead of its release on Tuesday, 5 November.

Hayes released two classic albums with Savage Garden: 1997’s self-titled LP and the 1999 smash-hit Affirmation.

One of Australia’s most decorated artists of all time, Savage Garden and Hayes have sold over 30 million albums globally, had two chart-topping singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, received 14 ARIA Awards, 10 APRA songwriting awards, five Top 10 albums, and nine Top 10 singles.

Aside from Savage Garden, Hayes has released five solo albums, each growing more ambitious than before. Starting with 2002’s Spin, Hayes went on to unveil The Tension And The Spark (2004), This Delicate Thing We’ve Made (2007), Secret Codes And Battleships (2011), and 2022’s Homosexual.
