On Saturday night (22 June), Foo Fighters and Taylor Swift performed in London to their devoted audiences.
Besides her re-recorded albums, Swift has released 11 albums, and so have the Foo Fighters. It’s fair to say that when both acts play live, they perform songs from their respective “eras” – a result of a massive discography and willingness to perform for hours.
Despite their similarities, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl jokingly snubbed Taylor Swift’s epic Eras Tour and insinuated that the Love Story singer doesn’t perform live (she sings live, but some of her songs do require backing tracks).
Before the band launched into Statues, Grohl pointed out that Taylor Swift was performing nearby – at Wembley Stadium – as their show went on at London Stadium. His comment was met with boos, and he followed them up with, “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.”
He added, “So we like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour.’ We’ve had more than a few eras and more than a few fucking errors as well. Just a couple.
“That’s because we actually play live. What? Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ‘n’ roll music, right? You came to the right fucking place.”
As a Taylor Swift fan notes, Swifties have previously used the term “errors tour” when the singer would sing live but mess up the lyrics. You can watch the video below.
Consequence Of Sound reports Grohl’s longstanding respect for Swift, including his praise for re-recording her albums to regain control of her masters. Whether or not his comments were in jest—albeit worded poorly and definitely riled up Swift’s fanbase—is up for speculation.
In a live review of Swift’s first show of the Eras Tour at the MCG, The Music’s Christopher Lewis wrote, “The Eras Tour is, first and foremost, Taylor Swift’s victory lap. But at three and a half hours long, it’s a victory marathon.”
Meanwhile, The Music’s Sam Mead said of Foo Fighters’ gig at HBF Park in Perth, “With a setlist lasting over two and half hours, this Foo Fighters experience isn’t for the faint of heart, but if your legs can last that long, you’re in for a treat spanning 30 years in the making.”
