The Demon Slayer series has various mysteries originating from several interconnected lores that keep fans on their toes. One of the theories revolves around the Demon Slayer Mark and the curse that comes with it. Moreover, since the protagonist, Tanjiro, also awakens the mark, many fans have wondered if he will succumb to the curse effect and die when he turns 25.
What age does Tanjiro die in Demon Slayer?
The mark appears when the demon slayers fight demons. For instance, Muichiro and Mitsuri received the Demon Slayer Mark when they fought Upper Rank demons during the Swordsmith Village arc. Amane Ubuyashiki tells the two Hashira of the speculation that any demon slayer who awakens the mark dies at 25.
As opposed to the Mist and Love Hashira, who received their marks temporarily, Tanjiro has had a forehead mark, which resembles the Demon Slayer Mark, since his introduction in the series. However, the specific mark on his forehead is actually a burn scar, and his Demon Slayer Mark was awakened briefly during the Entertainment District arc.
Although the occurrence of his mark is circumstantially different from others, some fans believe that he inherited the curse along with the mark and is doomed to die at 25. This also includes other demon slayers who have awakened the mark, including Muichiro and Mitsuri. Interestingly, various Reddit users believe the theory and ascertain that Tanjiro and other demon slayers with the mark die due to the curse effect.
But, some Reddit users from the fandom express that this theory is untrue. They highlight how Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the first swordsman to develop a Breathing Style and almost defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, lived till old age.
At the same time, other fans dismiss this theory. They claim that Yoriichi was the strongest demon slayer, and thus, the curse was ineffective on him. Tanjiro, on the contrary, dies at 25 because he does not match Yoriichi’s strength.
However, manga readers in the same subreddit confirm that Tanjiro and a few other demon slayers live to old age. Instead of dying due to the curse, he dies of natural causes when he is old. The manga series briefly depicts this towards its end.
As far as fan theories go, fans who claim that Tanjiro dies at 25 have reasons to back it up. However, in the manga, Tanjiro lives for years after his battle with Muzan Kibutsuji. He marries Kanao Tsuyuri, bears children with her, and lives a happy life till he meets his end naturally at an old age.
